Radha Sundararajan – Update 14th May 2021

FRIDAY 14th May 2021

Latest update: On Saturday morning at 10 am Indian Standard Time (05:30 UK time) the KYM will be holding a prayer meeting in memory of Radha. You can follow this on the KYM’s Facebook livestream here.

We are very sad to say that Radha passed away early this morning. We send our thoughts and prayers to her family.

Radha died as she lived. In India, today Friday May 14th, is Akṣaya Tṛitīyā, the third lunar day of the Spring month, a day which is considered to be particularly auspicious. Akṣaya  (अक्षय्य) means “never-endingness” in the sense of “prosperity, hope, joy, success”.* This is the celebration of the day that the river Ganga descended to Earth, the Ganga being revered as a Goddess and sacred in every sense. As the Ganges descended from Heaven to Earth, she is also considered the vehicle of ascent, from Earth to Heaven. We hold this thought for our dear teacher.

Radha changed our lives through the way she lived, what she taught us personally and above all her unwavering dedication to her teaching of chanting and to her lineage. We often feel at times like these that we need to do something – however, making time to just be quiet with our thoughts of Radha, reflecting on what we learned from her and thanking her can be as powerful. Should you wish to chant, then we would suggest a chant that is particularly appropriate for you or the Mṛtyuñjaya-mahāmantraḥ.

We wish her well on her next journey.

We will be dedicating our Sunday Sanga to Radha this coming Sunday at 8pm UK time. Please join us.

WEDNESDAY 5th May 2021

Radha was admitted to hospital to receive oxygen on Monday and we had hoped to receive more detail in order to update you. We have not had any further news since then from Radha or the family but will let you know as soon as we do.

It goes without saying that all classes will be cancelled for the time being.

Should you wish to add any chants to your practice then the Mṛtyuñjaya-mahāmantraḥ and the Durgāsūktam would be helpful at this time. The Mṛtyuñjaya is a chant that Radha chanted for her own mother when she was ill. The Durgāsūktam is a chant to take one from a place of suffering to a place of no suffering, and one which Radha has always told me enhances the effect of the Mṛtyuñjaya.

We continue to chant and pray for Radha, her family and the people of India.

Please post any messages at the bottom of this page.

SUNDAY 2nd May 2021

Radha has decided to take complete rest over the next week and so will be cancelling her lessons from 3rd-9th May.  She plans to be back teaching on 10th May, but we will post any further news on the website in the articles section. Radha has been very touched by your messages of support posted here and thanks everyone for their kind wishes.

Thank you all who joined in with our 24-hour chanting saṅga. It was a truly special event with people from every continent coming together to chant for those afflicted by Covid – we thank you all.

We continue to send Radha, her family and all those in India our thoughts and prayers.

THURSDAY 29th April 2021

We received news today that our patron and dearly beloved teacher Radha Sundararajan and her family have contracted Covid-19.

As her infection is mild, Radha is continuing with her classes. However, please do not use WhatsApp or email to get in touch with Radha, as she feels she would have to reply (even if you say no need to reply). We will do our best to keep you updated here on the website. Please send your best wishes by writing in the comments section at the bottom of this article.

We are chanting for India tomorrow, Friday 30th April, and the fact that Radha and her family have now contracted the coronavirus has brought home to us (yet again) how this illness can affect anyone. Please join us in chanting and prayers for them and the whole of India (indeed the world) at this devastating time.

We have received a remarkable response to our call for a 24-hour Vedic chant marathon, for which we are very grateful. This means no one needs to contact Lisa regarding slots any longer, but we hope you will still join us by simply chanting when it is convenient for you, knowing you are part of a saṅga of like-minded people who are sending out all good wishes to Radha, her family and all of India.
