Hanne Gillespie died on 24th June after a long illness.
In the early 1990s, she set up a yoga studio at her home in Blackrock, Co. Dublin, where she lived with her husband Rowan and their two children. Over thirty years, she dedicated herself to sharing the yoga which she learned initially from Paul Harvey and TKV Desikachar, and after 2005 from Peter Hersnack.
She created a community of students who grew in yoga, practising in the beautiful light-filled space overlooking the garden she loved so much. She nurtured the community as it grew, and some of us became teachers ourselves, lucky enough to teach in the studio which was our yoga home. Hanne’s dedication, commitment and generosity within her yoga teaching were extraordinary.
She also had a wild side which loved nature – the prānashe felt each spring in the green of her garden, and the mountains and coastline of her native Norway. She was much loved and will be very much missed.

So sad to hear of Hanne’s passing! Although it is many years since we last saw each other, I will always remember her and in particular the time in Chennai studying yoga back in 1994. She was a lovely person and will be missed!
