The Way Ahead

Early summer 2018 Gill Lloyd attended a gathering of 16 fellow students of TKV Desikachar in France. They came together to celebrate Sir’s life and teaching through meditation, chanting and open discussion, and to talk about how his work can be transmitted to new and future generations.

We celebrated his life and teaching through meditation, chanting and open discussion. We then turned our focus to how his work can be transmitted to new and future generations.

This was a first step in coming together as a united group for mutual support as we play our part in transmission of the teachings we have received. We were in harmony in our wish to perpetuate Desikachar’s work both individually and collectively.

To this end, we plan to meet again next year both to share what’s already happening plus ideas and plans for the way ahead.

How is the Spirit of Yoga Transmitted?

This past weekend, sixteen of TKV Desikachar’s long term students from around the world met and spent time together in the South of France. We reflected on what we each personally received from our teacher through our individual lessons in Chennai over many years.

Within this context certain questions arose that we would like to share as an offering.

  • How is the Spirit of Yoga transmitted?
  • What are the conditions that make this transmission possible?
  • How can all of us support the continuity of this transmission?

We will continue to meet and work together to sustain the spirit of TKV Desikachar’s teaching as we have understood it.
